MGT was selected by Oregon City to assist in developing a DEI framework and integration plan for these concepts into the city’s existing systems, policies, programs, processes, and staff readiness.
Oregon City engaged MGT in 2022 to execute an internal evaluation on developing a more diverse, equitable, and inclusive organization. The assessment aimed to identify where DEI areas (strengths and weaknesses) existed and how this may affect city staff. Through close partnership with staff and the community, MGT helped the city formulate a DEI commitment and devise an implementation plan to infuse diversity, equity, and inclusion across all operations.
Our team analyzed the existing systems, policies, programs, processes, and staff readiness to identify areas where diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) could be incorporated. We also collaborated in establishing a community Task Force of diverse city residents and key stakeholders. The Task Force participated in a series of meetings to offer insights into the state of equity across the city, provide feedback on our DEI assessment, and recommend potential initiatives to be included in the DEI Action Plan.
Thanks to this collaboration and the community’s involvement, MGT and Oregon City staff presented a DEI Action Plan with four Strategic Priority areas, each with its own initiatives, including:
- Foster and sustain a feeling of belonging and inclusion for all staff members.
- Strengthen the approach to talent recruitment, selection, development, and retention.
- Demonstrate individual and organization-wide commitment to DEI through communication, training, and accountability (at all levels).
- Weave a culture of diversity, equity, and inclusion into the fabric of all external-facing work of the city.
The City Council and the Mayor approved the plan, and the city is now implementing this framework. MGT continues to work with Oregon City to provide continued training and services, and we look forward to seeing the future of the DEI framework our teams worked together to create.
