Alabama A&M University – Strategic Plan

CASE STUDIES

Alabama A&M University (AAMU) needed a ten-year strategic plan to reflect its commitment to academic excellence in meeting the changing needs of the students and laying the foundation for a future to take it to new heights. MGT worked closely with AAMU’s Strategic Planning Committee to develop a new strategic plan by reaching consensus on a revised mission, vision, and values statement. The process included benchmarking, peer comparisons, and reviewing and analyzing a variety of primary and secondary data. A comprehensive stakeholder engagement process was conducted as part of the environmental scan and SWOT analysis. To conduct stakeholder engagement, MGT utilized a series of focus groups, key informant interviews, meetings, and surveys to solicit input from students, faculty, administrators, alumni, and the business community. AAMU’s Strategic Plan was approved by its Board and can be found on the University’s website.

AAMU’s Strategic Plan is a commitment to creating productive citizens who are critical thinkers by optimizing resources and providing an environment in which students can study, learn, and develop through their interaction with fellow students, faculty, staff, administrators, and community leaders. This plan focuses resources to maximize results by ensuring quality and excellence in all aspects of the Institution’s academic and administrative operations. It is aligned with AAMU’s mission, vision, values, and critical needs and priorities that must be addressed in order to ensure AAMU’s future. The premise of the Strategic Plan is for AAMU to build on its strong foundation as a comprehensive 1890 Land-Grant institution that is ideally positioned to continue to meet the educational needs of a racially, culturally, and economically diverse student population.
