Lyon County School District, NV – Strategic Planning

CASE STUDIES

OBJECTIVE
The Lyon County School District sought a comprehensive five-year strategic plan to ensure the School District was data driven and clearly focused on student success. The strategic planning process needed to address the following objectives:

  • Establish realistic priorities, goals, and objectives consistent with the School District’s mission and vision.
  • Ensure the most effective use of School District resources by focusing on the most critical strategic issues and priorities confronting it.
  • Communicate the School District’s priorities, goals, and objectives to constituents and stakeholders.
  • Provide the flexibility to meet changing needs and conditions.

METHODOLOGY
MGT developed and implemented a customized strategic planning process to meet the Lyon County School District’s requirements. Over a period of several months, MGT worked in partnership with the School District’s Strategic Planning Committee to conduct an environmental scan and situational analysis; solicit input from parents, teachers, and other community stakeholders; and finalize mission, vision, operating principles, and strategic priorities, goals, and objectives.

OUTCOME
The Lyon County School District’s strategic planning process resulted in the development of a five-year strategic plan that included five major strategic goals and district-wide strategies to address strategic goals and objectives which were approved by the Lyon County School Board. The Strategic Plan served as a public declaration of the School District’s priorities and affixed accountability for addressing priorities critical to the School District’s direction for the next five years.
