Tampa, FL – Public-sector consulting firm MGT Consulting Group today announced the addition of even more depth to its highly respected Higher Education consulting practice with the addition of former University of Tampa Assistant Provost Melanie Hicks, Ph.D. Melanie Hicks, PhD joins MGT as vice-president.
Dr. Hicks will be focused on nurturing and expanding the division, which already has assisted more than 400 higher education clients, completing over 700 projects to help colleges and universities serve their students better through optimized housing, facilities, programs, operations, staffing, finance, and planning.
Dr. Hicks says, “In the mid-2000s, I was a young Ph.D. Higher Education policy director. MGT was THE respected source for quality policy research and I regularly consulted their work to help me make informed decisions for my constituents. Now, years later, it is a privilege to utilize my years of varied expertise to build upon the great work that MGT has done for decades in Higher Ed, providing its clients with high quality consulting solutions that are innovative, practical and provide a meaningful return on investment.”

Dr. Hicks comes to MGT with more than 18 years of Higher Education and Public Policy experience, as well as expertise in PK-12, local and state government advocacy, entrepreneurship and non-profits.
Her roles included Director of Research for the Independent Colleges and Universities of Florida, at which she functioned as an expert advocate for higher education in Florida and created research and advocacy portfolios distributed statewide and nationally to governors, legislatures, boards and universities.
Her most recent role was as the first Assistant Provost & Director of Sponsored Programs for the University of Tampa (UT). UT is a proven leader in national and global education with students from all 50 states and more than 140 countries and, at a time when private college enrollments have dipped nationwide, UT has experienced 21 consecutive years of record enrollment growth.
As a member of the UT master planning and budgeting committee, Dr. Hicks was responsible for 52 academic department budgets and more than $15 million in restricted funds. She also led strategic assessments and return-on-investment evaluations of both the operating and capital needs of campus programs. From 2009 to 2015 (when it stopped rating universities), Charity Navigator awarded UT with its highest 4-star rating for its ability to efficiently manage and grow its finances.
Dr. Hicks holds a doctorate from the Askew School of Public Administration and Policy at Florida State University, a master’s in Public Administration from the University of Miami and bachelor’s in Organizational Communications from the University of Central Florida.
She is active in the Tampa Bay community, serving as a board member for Eunoia Collective, The Sustainable Living Project, Well Built and Leadership Tampa Bay.
