Karinda Barrett, Ph.D. joins MGT’s Higher Education team as Senior Consultant

Karinda Barrett, PhD has joined MGT Consulting Group’s Higher Education team as a Senior Consultant. Barrett will support the group in guiding public and private education clients through strategic planning, academic program assessments and improvement plans, economic and socio-economic impact studies, master planning, needs assessments, and feasibility studies.

Barrett brings more than twenty-five years of experience working in leadership roles within education environments. Most recently, she functioned as Associate Vice Chancellor and then Director of Academic Affairs for the Florida Department of Education’s Division of Colleges. This role allowed her to focus on helping 28 colleges achieve student success. She’s also held leadership positions for Florida State University and Tallahassee Community College.

Barrett understands the issues facing teachers and students in higher education today, having taught at Tallahassee Community College, the University of North Texas, Florida State University, and Western Carolina University. Her professional experience also extends outside the classroom – to include engagement in professional organizations, like National Institute of Staff and Organizational Development, the Florida Faculty Development Consortium and the South Eastern Association of Housing Officers (SEAHO).

A recognized leader in higher education, Barrett has presented at the International Conference on Teaching and Learning, TEDxTCC, the Association of Florida Colleges, and the National Institute of Staff and Organization Development. She has recently co-written a chapter in Cultivating a Data Culture In Higher Education titled Building Relationships and for A Handbook for Student Affairs in Community Colleges, Technology for Communication and Engagement in Student Affairs.

Barrett received her Ph.D. in Higher Education, Department of Educational Leadership from Florida State University and holds a Master of Education in Student Personnel Services, Educational Leadership and Policies Department from the University of South Carolina.
